Green Generation Building Company, LLC is a design-build general contractor based in Yellow Springs, Ohio. We build homes and commercial spaces that are smart, green, and offer decades of durability and craftsmanship.
The most common concern about building to the passive house energy standard is cost. On this home Green Generation has demonstrated that with careful attention to planning and detail that a passive house is close to the same cost as a traditional home which would consume ten times the amount of energy. The cost per square foot on this home totaled 8. That includes allowances for appliances and fixtures.
The master suite addition looks like it was part of the original home design. This is acheived by careful attention to detail in the choice of exterior finishes. The cedar lap siding is painted in the exact matching color and the trim, gutters and downspouts all match the original construction. No one would know that the master suite was added well after the original construction.
Remodeling old homes can be difficult. In this case the house was over 160 years old. Walls and floors are no longer plumb. The renovations must try to reach a compromise between the original character of the home and the current owner's aesthetic preferences. Electric and plumbing infrastructure is often old and outdated. Pictured here is a new bay window that was added as part of the kitchen remodeling job.
Whenever possible, we build to the passive house energy standards. We conducted thorough research to find a standard that matches our own passionate commitments to a green and sustainable future, and found it in the Passive House model, the most rigorous energy standard in the world. The Passive House Standard is originally from Germany, where thousands of passive homes have been built over the last decade and a half. To find out more about the Passive House Standard, click here.
